Combining Gekko’s extensive experience with cyanide through its wide installation base of Inline Leach Reactors, and world-renowned cyanide detox expert Randy J. Agius’s expertise, formed a sound partnership for the creation of Gekko’s own Cyanide Detox Group.
Cyanide detox technology is used to ensure the plant effluent from any cyanide process meets world environmental standards for cyanide and metals within the tailings impoundment or for discharge into the environment. Cyanide detox is becoming increasingly important as environmental limits are being reduced in the mining industry.
Since its inception in July this year, Gekko’s Cyanide Detox Group has seen over 30 enquiries world-wide from companies requiring assistance with detox facilities at both greenfields and brownfields projects. Gekko have provided consultations to optimise these detox circuits through detailed test work programs and technical consulting. The group has also provided input on detox plant design and flow sheets for greenfield projects.
Gekko’s existing metallurgical facility in Ballarat and its Canadian laboratory have been fully equipped to undertake detox testing protocols developed by Vice President of the cyanide detox group Randy J. Agius (pictured right). Test work protocols being utilised include SO2/Air, peroxide or Caro’s Acid and are developed for client requirements. All protocols used ensure metal and cyanide discharge limits meet permit levels or company standards.
